Mrs. Kennedy didn't tell me to do this, but I'm going to do it anyway.

If his show wasn't on so late at night, I might tune in. Craig Ferguson's monologue from President's Day is a bit long, but it's so honest and painful and powerful.
Rather than cancel our Oscars party this year, Alex decided to make it an exclusive, formal affair. We dressed up, hit the red carpet and ate fancy appetizers pizza and mozzarella sticks for dinner. I think Ellen Degeneres did a great job hosting, and the producers succeeded in making the show more entertaining this year. Way to go, team.
Gorgeous: Kate Winslet, Hellen Mirren, Reese Witherspoon, Beyonce's hair.
Not my style: Gwenyth Paltrow, Penelope Cruz, Kirsten Dunst, Nicole Kidman.
Loved: Forest Whitaker's speech; Abigail Breslin's Curious George doll; the crowd reaction when Martin Scorcese won; "The Departed"; so many gratuitous Leo shots*; saying, "Hey isn't that the girl from 'The Office' with Quincy Jones?" and then looking her up on imdb.com and finding that she's his daughter; the Jack Black/Will Ferrell/John C. Reilly song.
Oscar pool: And the winners are ... Amy and our very own Alex. They both missed Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor, which gave me nothing to use as a tie-breaker. Because Alex gets the everyday prize of living with me, though,** Amy gets the Fabulous Something. Yay, Amy!

*There was a time when I didn't get the DiCaprio thing. Now I get it. **Ha!
ccap says, "(a) Well, la-di-da, I didn't know that was Quincy Jones' daughter either. Gotta love IMDB. (b) Helen Mirren was stunning. (c) What was up with that giant bow on Nicole's shoulder?! Ew!" (9:38 AM, February 26, 2007)
Nichole says, "(a) And her mother is Peggy Lipton!
(b) I loved Helen Mirren's dress. And she's so, so pretty.
(c) That's exactly what I didn't like about the dress! It would have been fine otherwise." (9:43 AM, February 26, 2007)
Amy says, "I won! I won! I won! I won!! First of all, I'd like to thank all of my friends and family for supporting me. I'd also like to thank E! News Live, Entertainment Tonight and Showbiz Tonight. Last, but not least, I'd like to thank the Academy. Thank you!" (1:11 PM, February 26, 2007)

Alex and I took the weekend off. Piper had a big sleepover with "Bompa" (her collective name for Alex's parents), and we slept in, had breakfast in bed, read the newspaper, window-shopped, bought fancy chocolate truffles and watched three movies in one day. It was a wonderful start to Year Seven.
It's so easy to lose sight of each other in the day-to-day. This weekend helped me remember that Alex isn't just Piper's Daddy or my partner in housekeeping or the guy who pays the bills. He's my best friend.
. . . . . the end . . . . .

Crutcher Fam says, "Thanks for the comment on my blog!!! I appreciate the encouragement. Happy Anniversary!!!!! That sounds like a wonderful start to year seven!!!!" (1:30 PM, February 05, 2007)
ccap says, "Frick! You're impressive with the Oscar poll. I'm SERIOUSLY signing up. I just have to think about it a bit first." (5:04 PM, February 06, 2007)
When we were young and carefree, we hosted an Oscars party every year. Our friend Amy rarely came because she requires Absolute Silence on Oscars night, but some of our other friends did come, and we always had a nice time. We also always had an Oscar pool, complete with prizes. Or at the very least, a prize.
We're not having a party this year, but thanks to Matthew at Defective Yeti, the Oscar pool is alive and well.

I wish there really was a Barry Gibb Talk Show. I wish Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake had their own show. About fighting crime. In leisure suits, preferably.
You are Jerry's best friend - even though you are neurotic and slow-witted, he keeps you around to have a 'loser of the group'. Life has a funny way of screwing you over at every turn, and your parents are psychotic. And no matter what you do, you'll never compare to Lloyd Braun.
Alex says, "Ha-Ha! I'm Kramer!" (9:13 AM, December 15, 2006)
Amy says, "I'm Jerry Seinfeld. Strangly enough, my old boss used to tell me every single day that he thought I reminded him of George Costanza. It used to drive me crazy." (9:39 AM, December 15, 2006)
Alex took me to see "Casino Royale" tonight. It was ... Bond-y. It was still on the cheesy side, and there it features the requisite Ladies Susceptible to Bond's Charm (LSBC). It did have some redeeming features, though:
On the way out of the theater, two women behind us were discussing Daniel Craig, the new Bond. One of them was put off by his ears. The other said, "Who cares about his ears with a body like that?" To which I say, "Ahem."
Amy says, "I just got back from Casino Royale, too. Loved it. I thought DC was a VERY lovely Bond. Can I say that? Lovely? Okay, he was just down right sexy. There." (9:04 PM, December 03, 2006)
Tracey posted this video of the Young at Heart Chorus at MamaPop, and it made me cry.
And this one's for Alex. I found it when I was searching for more Young At Heart videos. I think Alex was born loving Neil Young. For a long time -- in high school, mostly -- I thought that was strange. But then (thanks mostly to alot of Alex mix tapes), I got it. Neil Young's a wonderful song writer. He may not have the most melodious voice, but it's passionate, and that means alot.
Grandma and Grandpa stayed home last night with Piper so Alex and I could go out for dinner and a movie. It was the best date we've had in a long time. In fact, I think it was the only date we've had in a long time. We went to Maggiano's and had a wonderful meal (Veal & Mushroom Ravioli for me, and Chicken Marsala for Alex, and fabulous little chocolate truffles "on the house"!), and then we went to see "Stranger Than Fiction" (made me cry). The movie wasn't until 10:10, so we lingered over dinner and talked and talked, and it was just lovely.
So it appears I'm on Team Chris andTeam Karen. Team Karen by default, because Roy has sort of broken my heart a little with his broken-hearted regret and I'm on Team Roy. Which means I have to be on Team Karen.
Even so.
What have I become?
EDITED TO ADD Great googly moogly! I didn't think they'd get married! I don't like this! Too soon too soon! Gah!
Did you catch CSI Miami tonight? What was that little black-and-white Horatio Caine montage near the end? It was a whole lot of awesome, that's what it was.
Also awesome: The Calleigh Duquesne face-off with Blonde Reporter Lady. "If you really cared, you'd be writing for a newspaper, not trying to get your face on television."* Ha ha. Yeah.
How did this happen? My sweet little girl hardly paid attention to the characters on "Sesame Street" as recently as Friday. Today, she's an addict. At dinner she rubbed her tiny little fingers together and chanted, "Em-o, Em-o, Em-o." Alex is giving her a bath right now, and I can hear her up there: "Em-o, Em-o, Em-o." Which is cute, but I fear for our future. Please, friends and family, if you love me, don't give her one of these.
Amy says, "Tia loves saying Elmo, too. Like the new plaid look!" (10:49 PM, October 30, 2006)
Alex says, "Not only was she saying "E-mo" in the bath last night, she was launching herself into the bubbles and laughing the whole time!" (8:22 AM, October 31, 2006)
Anonymous says, "What is it w/Elmo, seriously? And baby einstein for that matter? It baffles me, but whatever! :) I'm still stuck on the fact that Piper is TALKING! We miss you guys!" (1:26 PM, October 31, 2006)
Nine reasons we do not like "The Nine" 1. Kathryn's hair. 2. Nothing ever happens. I came for the bank robbery story. I'm getting "blah, blah, blah." 3. Everytime it starts, I have 167 hours until the next episode of "Lost." 4. Lizzie won't stop making that face. Ugh. 5. The bad guys had so much time to leave. Why are they so stupid? Why? 6. Joe without Brian? No thank you. 7. Alex doesn't care for bizzaro Michael J. Fox. 8. Do lawyers have conflict-of-interest rules? Should Kathryn's boyfriend be on this case? Huh? I need some answers.* 9. Plot lacks polar bears.
*I don't need any answers, really. I'm done with this show.
Alex says, "Is it just a coincidence that Yahoo! has this thing called "The 9" which started just a few weeks before "The Nine" began airing in ABC this fall?" (11:16 AM, October 27, 2006)
Our local hip-and-happenin' movie theater is sponsoring a "Mary Poppins" sing-along in a few weeks! I had to work the night they had a "Sound of Music" sing-along, but I actually have this particular Friday off. Woo! I'll be torturing Alex with strains of "A Spoon Full of Sugar" and "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" and that song about suffragettes that I can't remember at this moment (but I will after April 14, by gum!) for the rest of the spring. Poor Alex. But the theater's showing "Neil Young: Heart of Gold" soon, too, so he can take solace in that.
There's always been a special place in my heart for Don Knotts, and that little place hurt a little today when I read that he'd died. Here are a few reasons why:
"The New Scooby Doo Movies" ("The Spooky Fog" and "Guess Who's Knott Coming to Dinner")
